Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964 is an American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice presidency and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. As a part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017 and was a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was elected the city's district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she won re-election. Between 2017 and 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator , she supported healthcare reform, federal descholaring for cannabis, a path for immigrants who are not legal citizens and the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. She is best known for her direct questions to Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
